Our Organic Garden Straw comprises organic wheat straw that has been compressed to reduce environmental costs. You must pull it apart for easy spreading in garden and lawn applications. Does organic garden straw mulch contain seeds? Yes, but don’t worry! Removing all the seeds is impossible when we harvest organic garden wheat straw mulch using large agricultural equipment. However, since straw is not an annual, it will not return next year. If you have a seed sprout, it is easy to recognize and pull from the garden. Even with seeds, organic garden straw mulch is very helpful to gardens. There are no harmful chemicals, so it’s great for the environment and pet bedding. It’s Biodegradable, which makes for excellent material in your compost bin. Does Organic Garden Straw contain dust? Yes, but don’t worry. Using your water hose to mist some moisture onto the straw will cut down on the dust and make the straw less likely to blow away if it’s windy. How to use: A. Start by weeding the area where you’d like to use your garden straw. (If you are starting a new garden, cut the box the straw comes in in half to use as a barrier between the ground and straw; this will really help with weed pressure) B. Use a thick layer of garden straw as soon as you are done weeding the area (do not leave time for the weeds to resprout.) C. Do not cover your vegetable seeds; wait until they are 4-8 inches tall to mulch around them. D. Whenever you have an empty garden bed, use a thick layer of garden straw to prevent weeds from growing, keep the soil moist, encourage worms, and improve your soil. E. Cram the garden straw mulch between plants such as garlic and onions. When the ground is covered, the weeds should not be able to grow. F. Covering all of your walking paths with a thick layer as well will save you a ton of work!
